Tomorrow starts a new season of Dancing with the Stars, which got me thinking about just what makes me so excited for each season to begin. (Even when the show insists on casting certain people who are bound to annoy me.)
And so, I give you... 5 reasons to look forward to Dancing with the Stars:
5. Crazy Costumes -- Just when you think the DWTS costume designers can't come up with anything shocking and new, they start cutting up muppets to make multi-colored skirts or salvaging car washes for flying-fringe pants. On DWTS, it's sequins and faux-fur and fringe, oh my!
4. The Mirrorball Trophy -- Though they don't add it to the set until the season finale, this glittering icon of mirrors and light makes several cameos if you keep your eyes open during the practice footage and results show filler. It may seem like a simple, cheesy trophy designed for a dance show that wasn't seriously expected to last more than a season or two, but it has come to represent all the gaudy goodness of Dancing with the Stars.
3. The Music -- Harold Wheeler may very well lead the best band in the land, especially if that land is a ballroom full of dancing stars and their (somewhat) patient pros. The music is unfailingly the best and worst aspects of the show. Best, due to the talent of the musicians and the high quality sound they produce. Worst, due to it's frequently bad (I mean, truly horrible) song choices. The music really does have a huge impact on the success of the dances, which might just be the producers' way of manipulating the system. (At least if you listen to the online DWTS conspiracy experts.)
2. The Dancing -- Yes, it is a dancing show, but what exactly do we look forward to on this dancing show? There are several approaches to that one. For the anti-ringer group, it's about the growth of each dancer and the ultimate winner had better show major improvement. For the pro-ringer group, it's all about the talent and previous experience is fine if it leads to more thrilling performances. And then there's the political/anti-reality star group... it's very personal for these people. Cast the wrong person and (they say) they won't watch. Have a reality star or other "non-star" stay too long and (they say) they won't watch. Let the "wrong person" win and (they say) they will never watch any future season of DWTS.
1. Tom Bergeron -- And, yes, Tom Bergeron is the number one reason to look forward to a new season of Dancing with the Stars. Those sparking eyes; that sparkling wit. He handles a fainting Osmond with grace. He rescues awkward co-host moments with a single quip. This host with the most is without a doubt the best host to be Liiiiiiive on Dancing with the Stars!
