TiVo may still be my favorite non-human boyfriend, but I'm in love with a new appliance. (And it doesn't take batteries so get your minds out of the gutter!) My new-found love is my Crock Pot. Or actually my Crock Pots. (so much for cookware monogamy!)
I have a nice big, programmable Crock Pot that I got as a wedding gift years and years ago. (Doesn't everyone get a Crock Pot at their wedding whether they register for one or not?) The family who gave it to us raved about it, but I never really gave it a fair shake.
Sure, I trotted it out once or twice at parties and the dishes it made went over well. But somehow the Crock Pot never made it into my regular routine. Until this week.
The love affair began when I bought a new mini Crock Pot (actually, this Proctor Silex Slow Cooker, because it had better reviews and more features). Why, you might ask, would I buy another Crock Pot when I haven't touched my first one in years?
Well, it all goes back to oatmeal. I LOVE my morning oatmeal. With peaches and craisins, or blueberries and raspberries, or blueberries and peaches, or other fruit pairings. (Add a touch of cinnamon, honey, or maple syrup and it's sheer awesomeness!)
Trouble was, I would work-out, shower, get dressed and then make oatmeal. I was starving before I started cooking and the oatmeal felt like it took forever to cook! So, I had the idea of oatmeal in a mini Crock Pot that would cook while I worked out, etc.
I researched and ordered one, but while waiting for it to arrive I began to think about my bigger Crock Pot and how it could let me multi-task at dinnertime as well. So I hauled it out, put in a bunch of ingredients in the morning and they magically turned into beef stew by dinner! Brilliant!
This morning, mini Crock Pot made Cranberry Peach Oatmeal for me while I worked out and got dressed. I came downstairs hungry and there was a delicious breakfast just waiting to be ladled into my bowl. I am definitely in LOVE!
