Disney princess statues that are parting their skirts to reveal their fondest memories. What?!?! Am I the only one who thinks there's something a bit off about this idea? There I was, minding my own business, walking through a Hallmark store, when I turned a corner to see a whole shelf of Disney princesses lifting their skirts and smiling knowingly. (Seriously, check out the saucy look on Cinderella's face!) Under their skirts you can see pictures of special moments: dancing with a prince, kissing a prince, you know, all those special memories a princess would hold close to her... heart.
I'm no prude -- though my sense of humor is a bit demented -- so these statues really cracked me up. I couldn't stop gawking at them for a full five minutes, or making up inappropriate comments that the princesses might say while revealing the "special memories" they keep under their skirts. Fortunately there were no Disney-Princess-Collector-Types in earshot and my husband seemed to find it amusing.
But really, something like this makes me wonder about the artist who came up with the idea. And how? Did he draw a princess holding her dress up in that way and then say, "Hey, we could put a picture on the front of her dress-- No, even better, under her dress!"
Did he bounce the idea off other people? Did it snowball from there? "Yeah, let's make the picture a key moment from the princess' story. Like a romantic moment with her prince!"
Did no one make the connection from a "romantic memory" to "shown under her skirt" and think it was a bit of an.... interesting choice?
I'm not sure that Disney princesses parting their skirts to reveal their "special memories" is quite failblog material, but they did make me laugh.
