I Miss Poe

Some music reaches out through the speakers, whispering to you on a personal level. You are left dazed and slightly outside of yourself as you obsessively play and replay the CD for hours, days, weeks. The lyrics are killing you softly and the rhythms resonate through your soul. You have made a discovery; one that subtly changes your perceptions, draws out the integral moments of your life, and frames them in the new light of the context (intentional or otherwise) of the music you've discovered.

Poe brought me that kind of experience. Each song was a revelation; a new favorite. Each song tapped into a different moment of my life. A different emotion - some dark, others hopeful.

If You Were Here - written for Poe's father and including recordings of his voice that she found after his death - breaks my heart all over again and makes me long for my mother in a way that is matched only by Joss Whedon's episode of BtVS, The Body.

Last I knew, legal problems with Poe's former record label were tying her up. I can only hope that untangles itself and a new CD is in the offing.
